The government has given a green light for the state utility PT PLN to build its own gas storage for its gas-fired power plants across the country.

"We?ve asked permission from director general of oil and gas. And Bu Evita has given a positive respond. For this we don?t need to ask an approval from the ministry. We only need to inform it. The storage development will start next year,? PLN Oil Fuels and Gas Division Head M.Suryadi Mardjoeki told Petromindo.com in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He pointed out that PLN was currently developing a number of such storage. They are in Jakabaring (3 mmscfd for 50 MW power plant) that is expected to start operation in October, Sei Gelam (4.5 mmscfd for 90 MW) that is expected to be in operation in February next year, Grati (15 mmscfd for 300 MW) in January next year. All of the storages are for peak shaving.

Suryadi noted that it was also developing CNG marine in Gresik, Lombok, and Bawean. The CNG Marine Bawean?to be proposed in December 2012 or January 2013 - will have a capacity of 0.5 mmscfd, Lombok with CNG vessels to be finalized in 2014 - will have a capacity of 5.3 mmscfd.

?Later, we will also develop such facilities in other locations of our gas-fired power plants,? he said.
