The Ministry of Trade has issued a new regulation tightening the procedure for the export and import of petroleum fuel products, natural gas, and other fuel products.

The ministry said in a statement obtained Saturday that under the new Minister Regulation No 03/M-DAG/PER/1/2015, exporters and importers will be required to be registered with the ministry in order to obtain export and import approval.

To be able to obtain the registered status, the exporters and importers must first obtain recommendation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR). In addition, the export and import activities must be verified by independent surveyors to be appointed by the minister.

Under the previous regulation, exporters and importers were only required to obtain recommendation from the MEMR.

The new regulation is expected to be effective in April of this year. ?Oil and gas are strategic commodities which are prone to abuse. With the new regulation, we can look into the data of every product entering and leaving (the country), creating transparency in the export and import of gas and fuel products,? said Minister of Trade Rachmat Gobel.
