Govt to build 5 small scale LNG receiving terminals

To help speed up the development of gas industry, the government is building infrastructure such as Floating Storage and Regassification Terminal (FSRT) and LNG receiving terminal. Up to 5 small scale LNG receiving terminals in Samarinda, Balikpapan, Bali and Nusa Tenggara are soon to be built.

Evita H. Legowo, Director General for Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said on Monday during the sidelines of 2011 Indonesia Energy Week that the government is carrying out a study on small scale LNG receiving terminal throughout year 2010-2011, by which the development of small scale LNG receiving terminal Phase I by state enterprises has been slated for Samarinda, Balikpapan, Bali and Nusa Tenggara.

The capacity of each of those LNG terminal is as follows: 30 MMSCFF in Halmahera, 30 MMSCFD in Samarinda, 15 MMSCFD in Balikpapan, 25 MMSCFD in Bali and 25 MMSCFD in Pomalaa. Evita said that the development of these LNG receiving terminals is intended to develop gas industry in the country?s remote areas. The majority of the gas will be used for transportation.

?LNG is ideally used for fuel for long-haul transport. So our plan is, buses can still use CNG, small cars LGV or LPG, and long-haul buses LNG,? she said.

3 FSRT are also being constructed in West Java, North Sumatra and Central Java, with completion scheduled for this year and next. (romel)
