Govt to build LCNG stations for vessels

The government will build LCNG stations in various parts of the country to provide clean fuel for vessels, the directorate general of oil and gas said in a statement on Wednesday.

LCNG station combines liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) in one station. A typical LCNG station is supplied with LNG and has dispensers for both LNG and CNG vehicles. The advantage of an LCNG station is that it can offer both LNG and CNG.

Director General of Oil and Gas IGN Wiratmaja said in the statement that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will enforce its rule regarding emission limit in 2020. Indonesian vessels have thus to follow the rule.

?The government will build LCNG stations for vessels because starting in 2020, all vessels must have clean emissions. LNG is the right choice of energy for the vessels,? he said.

Vessels that use marine fuel oil (MFO) as fuel will not pass emission tests when the IMO rule is implemented. Thereby, the government will build LCNG stations in port areas such as Cirebon, Karawang and Central Java from 2016 through 2018.
