The Indonesian government will impose export tax on coal in 2014 in order to comply with the law No. 4/2009 on coal and mineral mining, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.
?The best timing for the introduction of the coal export tax is in 2014, when the ban on unprocessed minerals is fully implemented,? the acting head of the fiscal policy board, Bambang RS Brodjonegoro was quoted as saying by the daily.
Bambang, however, did not unveil the percentage of the export tax which would be imposed on coal beginning next year.
He said that in 2014, the ban on exports of unprocessed minerals would be fully implemented as part of the government?s program to strengthen the downstream mining industry in the country.
According to him, the export tax will not be imposed on refined mineral products. (*)
