Govt to impose DMO on minerals

Wednesday, November 2 2011 - 07:33 AM WIB

The government has drafted a ministerial decree that would limit the export of minerals under the so-called domestic market obligation (DMO) scheme to ensure sufficient supply of minerals for the expected rising demand of domestic market.

?We will also impose the DMO to minerals to ensure domestic supply. We hope to finish the draft next year,? Director of business development of coal affairs at the Mineral and Energy Resources Ministry, Edi Prasejo said on Tuesday.

He did not elaborate on whether the DMO would be made for all kinds of mineral.

?We are still discussing it. We still need to gather inputs including from the business players of mineral mining,? he said, adding that the concept would be similar to the now-debated DMO on coal. (adianto)
