Govt to issue revised ruling on subsidized fuel

The government expects to finalize the revision of the Presidential Decree (Perpres) No. 55, 2005, on subsidized fuel price by year-end, Secretary of Director General for Oil and Gas, Edi Purnomo.
The revised regulation will, among other, determine who will have the right to consume subsidized fuel. They could include fishermen, public transports and motorcycles.
He said the ruling aims to limit the consumption of subsidized fuel, which continues to balloon.
However, it is not clear yet whether the revised ruling will also regulate the consumption of subsidized fuel by private car owners.
The downstream oil and gas regulator BPHMIGAS said in January-October, the realized subsidized fuel consumption reached 34.42 million kiloliters, or 85.02 percent of the maximum limit set by the government of 40.5 kiloliters. (*)
