The government is planning to launch an energy forum in Beijing, China, similar to the one held on September 19 in Houston, U.S., according to Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

?The government is currently making preparations for the energy forum in China,? Purnomo told Petromindo.com Thursday.

He did not elaborate, but a source said that the forum would be launched sometime in April and to be opened by President Megawati Soekarnoputri. The forum will discussed investment issues in oil, gas, and coal.

The Houston energy forum in September was aimed at promoting investment in Indonesia?s energy sector. U.S. oil and gas companies made a commitment to invest around US$2 billion following the forum.

The energy forum in Beijing is held at a time when the Chinese authority will announce the winning bidder for supplying LNG (liquefied natural gas) to Guangdong province. BP Indonesia, which operates the Tangguh LNG project in Papua, participates in the tender. The government has previously sent a high level mission to China to help BP win the project.(Godang)
