The government will next year carry out a project of updating data about the country?s coal deposits, geology and mineral resources director general Wimpy S. Tjetjep said Thursday.
Japan Energy Coal Center (JCOAL) and other parties from that country would assist the government to carry out the project, Wimpy said in his speech to mark the signing of coal technology cooperation between the Indonesian government and JCOAL.
The official said Indonesia?s coal deposits were estimated at around 50 billion metric tons, and that new efforts were needed to identify them more correctly.
Indonesia is one of the world?s largest coal producers, and is one of the biggest coal suppliers to Japan. (godang)
