The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) is currently drafting a new regulation that would limit the number of coal ports for export in a bid to help secure state revenue.

Edi Prasodjo, Director of Coal Business Development at the MEMR said at the 3rd Annual Business Meeting of Indonesian Coal Producers & Buyers 2013 in Bali on Monday that currently coal can be sent overseas via any coal terminal in the country.

Under the planned new regulation, coal can only be exported via coal terminals which have government supervision facility, thus limiting the number of exit points.

"Through this (new) regulation the government would make arrangements and restrictions on coal terminal, hence the coal terminal and coal transportation facilities should have government oversight," he said, adding that to implement this policy, MEMR will cooperate with related ministries.
