Directorate General of Mineral and Coal will oblige mining companies holding mining business permit (IUP) to build a mine-mouth power plant (MMPP). The obligation is intended to reduce coal export.

Government will provide incentives for the companies that have commitment to build MMPP. "Coal export should not be too much. So we should build power plants to generate electricity, which PLN would buy," Director General of Mineral and Coal Thamrin Sihite said on the sideline of a Coffee Morning session on Friday.

In addition, Thamrin said that he would develop seven mineral and coal technical assistance clusters.

"We will develop them regionally, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java, Bali and Papua," Thamrin said.
