The government will push for the development of coal-fired power plants to increase the coal portion in the national energy mix to 50 percent in 2025.

Coal power plants will replace oil fuels in power generation whose portion in the energy mix is expected to decline to one percent by 2025, Director General of Electricity Jarman said during a power conference organized by the Indonesian Electrical Power Society (CIEPS) in Jakarta on Thursday, according to a press release from the directorate general.

Temporary data compiled the National Energy Council indicate the portion of oil fuel in energy mix reached 48 percent in 2014, while the portion of coal reached 31 percent.

The 2014 National Energy Policy targets the portion of coal in the energy mix to reach at least 30 percent by 2025, while the oil fuel portion at less than 25 percent.
