Govt to revive Tanjung Jati A and C power projects

The government has decided to revive two giant steam power projects Tanjung Jati A and C in Jepara, Central Java to cope with the rising electricity demand, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.

The two steam power projects, which were suspended in 1998 as part of the government's program to cope with the impact of the 1997 financial crisis has been included in the national electricity plan.

The other power projects that have been included in the master plan include PLTU Serang (coal-fired) with a capacity of 450 MW, PLTGU Pasuruan (combined-cycle), with a capacity of 500 MW, PLTU Cilegon with a capacity of 400 MW, PLTU Paiton 3-4 with a capacity of 800 MW, PLTU Sibolga, with a capacity of 200 MW, PLTU Amurang with a capacity of 55 MW, LNG-Terminal Interconnection Sumtara-Java, PLTU Parit Baru (110 MW) and PLTU Mulut Tambang (110 MW).

With the inclusion of Tanjung Jati A and C, the total power projects to be built until 2010 will reach 12 units.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that the tender for the construction of the power projects would be carried out in stages, depending on the need. (*)
