The government plans to sell more shares in the publicly-listed general mining company PT Aneka Tambang (Antam) this year, according to director general of state-owned enterprises I Nyoman Tjager.

Tjager was quoted as saying by the Neraca daily that the government would also privatize coal mining company PT Bukit Asam.

Tjager said that the sale of Antam and Bukit Asam is part of the country's privatization program in 2001.

He said that around eight companies including Antam and Bukit Asam would be included in the privatization program, which aims at raising around Rp 6.5 trillion (US$!=Rp 9,500) in proceeds to help finance the 2001 state budget deficit.(*)
