The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry plans will set up a special team to help speed up the tender and construction of power plants to be built by independent power producers (IPPs), Kontan reported on Thursday.

The ministry's Director General of Electricity J. Purwono said in Jakarta on Wednesday that the special team would help solve any obstacles that could be faced by IPPs in the construction of their power projects.

The main task of the special team would also include the preparation of the financial incentives to be provided for private power projects, he said.

State electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is waiting for the issuance of a presidential decree to begin the Phase Two 10,000-megawatt power development program in which about 2,616 MW of the power supply to be generated from coal-fired power plants, 1,440 MW from gas-fired power plants, 4,733 MW from geothermal power plants and 1,174 MW from hydro power plants.
