Govt to set up tariff structure for waste power plants

The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry is preparing the government policy on feed in tariffs to encourage the private sectors to involve in the development of waste fired power plants in the country, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Monday.

Rida Mulyana, the ministry?s director general of renewable energy and energy conservation, said in Jakarta last week that the policy on feed in tariff would be issued to indicate the government?s serious commitment to develop waste power plants which are now still relatively costly to build.

?The draft on the government?s policy on feed in tariff is now being assessed by the legal department at the ministry,? he said. ?But for sure, the feed in tariff for waste power plants will be higher than for geothermal power plants,? he said.

The tariff structure will be divided into two categories ? one for waste power plants which still produce waste after the electricity generation process, and the other is for those which no longer produce waste, he said. (*)
