The government has planned to conduct this year a study on mining firms to determine whether they have used enough local products for their projects, a senior government official said Tuesday.
?We want to know how far they have used locally made equipment and other products for their operation,? said geology and mineral resources director general Wimpy S. Tjetjep.
Wimpy said local manufacturers actually could supply up to 15 percent of the equipment and other items used by mining firms operating in the country.
The study was scheduled to start by late this year, the official told reporters.
Wimpy said working contracts awarded to mining firms obliged them to also use local products. (godang)
