The government will use funding from the state budget to obtain fresh 2D and 3D seismic data as part of efforts to enrich and improve the quality of its oil and gas data.

Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources A. Edy Hermantoro said on Monday that developing quality oil and gas data forms part of the government?s strategy to help increase investment in the oil and gas sector, which in turn would help arrest the current declining trend in oil production.

Edy acknowledged that this is the first time the government resorts to the state budget to finance efforts to improve and enrich its oil and gas data. He reiterated that this is not a waste of money.
