Govt warns oil and gas firms to report discoveries

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has issued a letter calling on oil and gas companies to report their oil and gas discoveries.

The letter issued by the ministry?s Director General of Oil and Gas Luluk Sumiarso on Dec.8, 2006 gave oil and gas companies until Dec. 31, 2006 to report oil and gas discoveries they made in their respective working areas.

Under the Oil and Gas Law No. 22/2001, Luluk insists in the letter that the discovery data belong to the government and oil and gas companies could be prosecuted for criminal offenses if they fail to report the discoveries.

Luluk told Petromindo.Com that the letter remained effective although the deadline set for companies to report their discoveries have been passed. (Godang).
