Govt will speed up tender for seven power plants

The government will speed up the tender for the construction of seven new power plants so that they will be able to begin commercial operation between 2010 and 2011 as scheduled, a senior energy official said as reported by Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

Director General of Electricity and Energy Utilization Yogo Pratomo said in Jakarta last week that the seven power plants would be part of the eight power projects to be offered to investors this year.

The tender for the construction of the 600 MW Cirebon steam power plant, launched in September, last year, is now still process. "The tender for the seven power plants should be opened in March this year at the latest," Yoga said.

The seven power projects include the Pasuruan combined cycle power plant which will have a capacity of 1 x 500 MW, the Jateng coal-fired power plant (2 x 600 MW), the Paiton 3-4 coal-fired power plant (2 x 400), the Kaltim coal-fired power plant (2 x 60 MW), the Sumut coal-fired power plant (2 x 100 MW), the Bali coal-fired power plant (2 x 100 MW) and the Sulut coal-fired power plant (2 x 25 MW).
