The Mineral and Energy Resources Ministry insisted that the office has no plan to intervene the continued decrease of coal prices, citing it as a four-year global phenomena of coal prices.

"We have not yet made an official comment on coal prices. I think the current fluctuated prices are a matter of four-year phenomena," Edi Prasodjo, Director of Coal Mining and Development at the ministry said.

He argued that the miners should take initiative to control their production in response to weak demand from China and India coupled with the ongoing economic crisis in Europe.

He said that the office advises the miners to realize production based on its proposed company budget work plan, better known as RKAP.
