PT Pertagas Niaga, a subsidiary of state-owned oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, is scheduled to hold groundbreaking mid this week for the construction of a gas pipeline linking Arun, in Aceh, and Belawan, in North Sumatra.

Salis Aprilian, Senior Vice President for Engineering and Operation Management at the Gas Directorate of Pertamina told Petromindo.com Monday that the construction of the pipeline is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2014.

In June of this year, Pertagas signed an MoU with PT Medco E&P Malaka to develop the gas pipeline, which would allow the distribution of gas from Medco-operated Block A PSC in Aceh to customers in the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan and the surrounding areas.

Salis previously said that the volume of gas expected from Block A PSC for the customers in North Sumatra is estimated at around 50 mmscfd.
