Groundbreaking of Bengkulu-South Sumatera tollroad set for early August

Governor of Bengkulu Rohidin Mersyah said the groundbreaking of the toll road project that will connect Bengkulu and South Sumatera is set on early August 2019.

Rohidin said the developer of the project is now in the process of securing funding to finance the project (financial close).

"The groundbreaking of the project is set for early August 2019. All have been set, financial (needed) and land clearing by the ATR/BPN (Land Registrar Agency) have been done," Rohidin was quoted by Kompas.com on Saturday (29/06). 

The toll road will be stretched for 95 kilometers, connecting a number of towns, including Bengkulu, Curup and Lubuk Linggau in outh Sumatera. In Bengkulu, the toll road will start from zero kilometers at Betungan village in Bengkulu city and then stretched to Central Bengkulu.

The toll road construction, which is part of the Trans Sumatera toll road, is expected to be completed in 2022.

"This strategic infrastructure will be connected with Baai Island Port, which will be developed as an integrated part of the Special Economic Zone," said Rohidin.

The toll road will help local people to deliver their agriculture projects to the nearby cities and port.

The toll road is also expected to shorten the traveling time between Bengkulu and South Sumatera.

The project is funded by the State Budget, with estimated cost of Rp14.587 trillion.(*)
