Growth Steel builds biomass power plant in Medan

Growth Steel Growth (GSG) will build one more biomass power plant with capacity of 4 x 15 megawatt in Medan using oil palm shells and paddy husk as its fuels, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Saturday.
The biomass power plant in Medan is one of several biomass power plants being built by GSG. The company will soon operate several biomass power plants in Simalungun, Jambi, Palembang, Cilegon and Pontianak. These power plants have capacity of 4 x 15 MW each.
?All the power plants will begin operation in 2013,? Business Development GSG Jonatan Handojo, said, adding that the company would spend up to Rp US$900,000 for the construction of each biomass power plant.
Since 2008, GSG has provided power supply as much as 35 MW to state owned electricity company PLN from its biomass power plant in North Sumatera. (*)
