Guang Xi province plans to build $1.6b alumina smelter

The government of China?s Province of Guang Xi plans to invest US$1.6 billion to build an alumina smelter in West Kalimantan.

?We are studying the plan. The investment is estimated at $1.6 billion,? visiting Gung Xi?s Vice Governor Xi Zhang Xiaoqin was quoted by Antara news agency as saying in Jakarta on Friday.

Minister of Industry MS Hidayat said the smelter will get ore supply from mine in eastern Indonesia

?The ore supply will come from eastern Indonesia. They will cooperate with a state-owned company, which means PT ANTAM,? he said.

Besides, the Chinese provincial government will also build an industrial zone in Bekasi, West Java for Chinese automotive and electronic manufacturing companies. (*)
