Gulf helps Bengkulu earthquake victims

Oil and gas company Gulf Indonesia Resources Ltd, a subsidiary of Gulf Canada Resources Ltd, has provided Rp 400 million (US$1=Rp 8,805) in cash aid for the re-construction of a state-owned elementary school in Bengkulu, which was demolished in a recent earthquake.
Company manager of services Ipun Razief Fitri broke ground for the SDN 61 elementary school on Thursday in a ceremony attended by among others first rector of the Bengkulu University Zainal Muktamar, company assistant vice president Marwondo J, Neraca daily reported.
Marwondo said a half of the Rp 400 million fund was collected from Gulf's employees in the regions and Jakarta, with the remaining Rp 200 million donated by the company.
He said Gulf and the company's employees wanted to continually take care of the elementary school.
Marwondo further said Gulf is re-building the school in cooperation with the University of Bengkulu, which has set up a station nearby to watch over the construction of the school.
The construction of the school was expected to be completed prior to the Islamic fasting month in November this year, he said.
Neraca reported aside from the Rp 400 million fund for the construction of the primary school, Gulf has also donated Rp 250 million worth of furniture to primary and high schools and health centers in several places in Bengkulu.
The company and its contractors have also donated 10.6 tons of rice to the victims of the earthquake.
Gulf, which is one of the country's largest gas producer, has gas operations in South Sumatra, Jambi and the West Natuna area. (*)
