Coal mining company PT Gunung Bayan Pratama Coal (GBPC) in West Kutai, East Kalimantan, may have to stop its coal production if the local Mahakam River continues to dry up over the next one month period.
The Kaltim Post daily said on Tuesday that the drying up of the water in the Mahakam River had caused GBPC to face difficulties in transporting its coal products.
?If over the next month, the water level continue to decline, we?ll be forced to stop production, and all employees will be have to be in a standby position to wait for further development,? said GBPC personnel coordinator Reflan Hutapea.
He said that if such situation occur, the company would suffer heavy losses.
Hutapea said that the company had tried to use smaller vessels to transport the coal, but it was no success.(*)
