Gunung Megang gas fired power plant to operate soon

Gunung Megang gas-fired power plant with a capacity of 2x40 MW in South Sumatra will start operation in April 2007 following the completion of the construction project worth US$80 million or around Rp 728 billion, Investor Daily reported Wednesday.

Under the plan, the power produced by Gunung Megang power plant is allocated to meet the power need from southern part of Sumatra.

A source told the daily that the Gunung Megang gas-fired power plant has taken the advantage of gas sourced from a gas well in Rambutan field, Muara Enim owned by PT Expan Nusantara.

The project is under the management of PT Medco Energi Power, a subsidiary of an integrated energy firm Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, in cooperation with PT Indonesia Power, the subsidiary of state electricity company PLN.

Under a long-term contract, Gunung Megang gas-fired power plant is committed to selling its outputs to PLN. (*)
