Gunung Steel Group is investing US$200 million to build a blast furnace with a capacity to produce 750,000 tons of hot metal per year, Bisnis Indonesia reported Friday.

The paper quoted Marketing Director of PT Gunung Steel Group Chairuddin as saying that the new plant, located in Cikarang, West Java, is expected to begin production in March of 2016.

The new smelter will help the group, through two subsidiaries PT Gunung Raja Paksi and PT Gunung Garuda, to double production to 2 million tons per year.

Chairuddin said that the iron ore material for the smelter will come from Kalimantan, West Sumatra, Jambi, and Aceh. (*)
