Only about half of all coal companies have secured 'clean and clear' status as of May 2012, data from the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources shows.
The Ministry's Director of Mineral Business Development Dede I Suhendra said that some 1.850 coal companies are still in non 'clean and clear' status.
"Only 1,808 coal companies have secured the 'clean and clear' status," Dede told the one-day conference on export duty on mineral ores, organized by Petromindo.com.
The 'clean and clear' status is awarded to companies with mining areas that have no overlapping with any adjacent mining areas.
