Coal mining firm PT Hanson Energy and German Thyssen Krupp AG will jointly build a US$400 million-coal overland conveyer with a capacity of 10 million tons per year in South Sumatra , Investor Daily reported Tuesday.

Hanson Energy’s president director Harun Setiawan Boedi said in Jakarta Monday that the company has been in talk with Thyssen Krupp AG on the possibility of jointly building the overland conveyer for four months and “we are now finalizing the talk.”

“Thyssen Krupp AG has been selected as a partner (in building the overland conveyer) because the company has years of experience and expertise in the field,” Harun said in a statement.

The company will take advantage of the means to transport the coal output from the whole concession owned by Hanson in South Sumatra, he said.

Group representative Thyssen Krupp AG for Indonesia Dieter G Ziulkowski confirmed the plan to build a conveyer, saying that it would become the biggest and the longest ever one in Indonesia.

The facility is designed to meet the need of reliable and stable operational mechanism due to the rising demand for coal from domestic and international market, he said.

PT Hanson Energy, an affiliate of JSX-listed firm PT Hanson International Tbk, operates a mining concession of some 30,000 hectares of land in South Sumatra , with estimated coal reserves of 400 million metric tons. (*)
