East Kalimantan semi soft coking coal producer PT Harsco Mineral intends to exploit a new pit to replace currently producing pit in Kotabangun district, Kutai Kartanegara regency, due to intrusion of river water onto the mine recently, an industrial source told Petromindo.Com.
Harsco is currently in the process of obtaining environmental impact assessment study, or AMDAL license for the new pit from local government. ?However, tt might take a few months for Harsco to start exploiting the new pit,? the source said.
The mine is reported to have totally stopped production since end of last year due to intrusion of river water onto the producing pit.
The company started commercial operations in January 2011, producing around 40,000 tons of semi soft coking coal per month.
