Kalimantan coal firm PT Harsco Mineral will start coking coal production from its Kutai Kartanegara mine in April 2010.

Managing Director Harsono D. Amidjojo told Petromindo.com on Monday that the company is currently in the process of selecting one of the two contractors short-listed to carry mining activities at the mine.

David said production will start with 20,000 tonnes per month for the first four month, ramping up to 50,000 tonnes per month afterwards.

David said the company had sent samples to be tested by two Japanese potential customers including Kobe Steel.

According to David, Harsco currently has 3 million tones of mineable coking reserves in the southern part of its concession and a number of potential reserves at other blocks which are currently under exploration.(denny)
