Hess ready to launch expansion in Indonesia

Amerada Hess Indonesia, a production sharing contractor of Pertamina, has a relatively short to enter Indonesia, which is since 1997, but has many exploration fields, the oil company's Business Affairs & Communication Advisor Kemas Ihsan says.

He added that to execute its business, the company has two systems: as operator for exploration and as a partner of other PSCs.

Kemas said that Amerada as operator has two exploration fields which are located in Lemah Tamblok , South Sumatera and Paga Tamblok in Kalimantan. He said further that the two fields produce 300 barrels of oil and 5.5 to 6 MMSCF of gas per day.

Amerada Hess as an oil company has actively to launch expansion, namely its particpation in every tender organized by Pertamina. As far as now, Amerada Hess Indonesia only involves in onshore activity but if it gets a tender for deep water drilling the company will join it. If seen from the point of its technological potential, Amerada is ready. As an evidence is its operation in North Sea, said Kemas.

He added that if there is an opportunity, Amerada will, in the next five years, able to compete with Caltex as the biggest oil producer in Indonesia. (*)
