Hess starts W. Papua deepwater drilling campaign

US oil, gas firm Hess Corp. has spudded the first exploration well at Semai V block offshore West Papua on Monday, an official with upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said.

Spokesperson Gde Pradnyana told Petromindo.Com that the Andalan-1 well will be the first well drilled at the block. ?Depending on the success of the first well, Hess may drill three or more wells in the block,? he said.

Gde said Hess will spend more than US$100 million to drill the first well.

The Andalan-1 well is located in water depth of 6,400 feet.

According to the company?s presentation, Semai V has gross resources range of 5-15 TCF with large 4-way structure.

Hess has 100 percent interest in the block. (godang)
