US oil, gas firm Hess Corp. will start drilling campaign at its Semai V deepwater exploration in West Papua in early April, an official with upstream oil, gas authority BPMIGAS said.

The company will spud Andalan-1 well, which will be drilled to the total depth of 6,500 feet from sea bottom or 18,000 feet from sea surface, Head of Representative for East Java, Maluku and Papua Budi Arman told Petromindo.com recently.

The company said earlier that it would drill three wells in the block. Hess has 100 percent interest in the block. (bernard)
