The meteorology agency predicted that the waves would further hit most parts of the country's waters this week. The waves, according to the agency, could surge to between 2.5 meters and 6 meters until next Tuesday.
The bad weather which has caused high waves during the past several days has seriously disrupted coal supply from major coal producers in Kalimantan to major power plants in Java
Media Indonesia reported that as many as 35 barges carrying coal from Kalimantan to a number of power plants in Java including Tanjung Jati B in Central Java, Cilacap in Central Java and Suralaya in Banten have been forced to stop on the Karimun island due to the bad weather.
Another 15 barges also carrying coal were also stranded on the Genting island in the Java sea as high waves prevented them from continuing their trips, the newspaper reported.
Coal supplies to the Cirebon port in West Java ,have been decreasing.(*)
