The association of national entrepreneurs in oil and gas sector Hiswanamigas plans to build 22 coal briquette factories in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi to produce cheaper cooking energy for household consumption, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

The chairman of Hiswanmigas said that the 22 coal briquette factories which would have total capacity of about 220,000 tons a year would be built with total investment of about Rp 66 billion.

"The coal briquette factories will be built to anticipate the government's plan to remove the subsidy of the highly subsidized kerosene fuel in 2006," he said, adding that he hoped the coal briquette factories would be able to begin operation also in 2006 so that the people would have cheaper energy alternative when the subsidy of kerosene is fully removed.
