A consortium comprising of PT Hitay Daya Energy and PT Dyfco Energy plans to carry out exploration drilling program at the Gunung Talang-Bukit Kili geothermal working area in West Sumatra.

A source at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources told Petromindo.com on Monday that the consortium has started public campaign for the drilling program and hopes to start the planned drilling in the first semester of this year.

The source added that the consortium in the first phase will develop a 20 MW geothermal power plant with estimated investment of US$100 million of the planned total 60 MW.

The ministry last year named the consortium as the winning bidder for the Gunung Talang-Bukit Kili geothermal project, offering the lowest electricity price of 12.75 US cents per KWh, compared to the ceiling price of 14.6 cents per kWh.

The 27,000-ha Gunung Talang-Bukit Kili geothermal working area, located in Solok Regency, has estimated reserves of 65 MW, and a planned capacity development of 20 MW, with a commercial operation date target of 2022.
