A senior official at the ministry of energy and mineral resources denied on Wednesday reports that the ministry of home affairs and regional autonomy was not involved in the drafting of the presidential decree on the transfer of mining authority.
Head of the ministry's legal bureau TA Nurwinakun said the ministry of energy and mineral resources worked together with the ministry of home affairs and regional autonomy in drafting of the presidential decree from the outset.
Earlier, Petromindo.Com quoted local daily Bisnis Indonesia as saying that the ministry of home affairs and regional autonomy had withdrawn the draft presidential decree from the state secretary's office because the ministry was not involved in the drafting process of the decree. The draft decree was sent to the state secretary's office to be approved by President Abdurrahman Wahid.
Nurwinakun dimissed the report as misleading.
"Both the ministry of energy and mineral resources and the ministry of home affairs and regional autonomy worked together in the drafting process from the beginning," Nurwinakun told Petromindo.Com.
He said the draft decree was being re-examined by the ministry of energy and mineral resources and the ministry of home affairs to further specify clauses regarding the authority over cross-regency and cross-province resources and contracts awarded to foreign investors.
"We hope to send it back to the state secretariate by the end of this month," he said. (Epin)
