House agrees to deliberate draft law on mineral resources, coal mining

Ten factions of the House of Representatives agreed on Monday to start deliberation a proposed law on mineral and coal mining.

The decision was reached during a meeting between the House special comittee, members of regional representatives, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

The newly proposed law, which will replace the current Law No. 11/1967 on mining, is expected to among others help improve investment climate in the sector as well as protect the environment.

No details on the content of the draft law nor the timetable for the deliberation process were available.(Godang)
