House asks govt to amend geothermal law

The House of Representatives? Commission VII on Energy agreed on Thursday to amend Law No. 27/2003 on geothermal and told the government to arrange a draft revision, head of the commission says.

Teuku Rifki Harsya said in hearing with government that the House gave the government an opportunity to submit a draft revision of the law until mid-July. According to him, the current law contained so many weaknesses. ?We expect government to revise the current law,? he said.

Director General for New and Renewable Energy and Conservation Luluk Sumiarso said in the hearing the government accepted the House?s recommendation and would amend the law as soon as possible to improve geothermal business climate in Indonesia. (*)
