All factions at the House of Representatives (DPR) and the government agreed to pass energy bill into a law, Kompas Daily reported on Wednesday.

The draft signed by all House factions and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resource Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro would be brought into a House plenary session for approval.

The new law will become the umbrella for the oil and gas law, geothermal law, water resources law, mineral and coal resources law and electricity law. Three of the five laws -- the oil and gas law, geothermal law, water resources law -- have been enacted, while the two others -- the electricity law and mineral and coal resources law -- are still being debated by the House and the government.

The energy law, among others, calls for the formation of the so-called National Energy Council, led by the President, that will formulate, decide on and oversee the implementation of energy policy in the country. (*)
