The House of Representatives (DPR) has named nine people for the top posts at the newly formed body that manages oil products and their distribution along with natural gas pipeline transportation, a government official told Petromindo.com Friday.

A House team picked the nine people Thursday after completing a three-day fit and proper test on 18 candidates starting from Tuesday, said TA Nur Winakun, spokesman and head of the legal affairs section at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. President Megawati Sukarnoputri had submitted the 18 names to the House according to the current oil and gas law.

The nine people were TA Nur Winakun; legislator Tubagus Haryono; Lubna Amir, a business consultant; Amal Ramlan Ginting, head of the Maluku provincial office of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources; Shahabudin, director of exploitation and trade at the oil and gas directorate general; Hanggono T Nugroho from National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas); Hairiyati, former executive of state gas transmission and distribution company PGN; Iwan Faidi from Indonesia Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA); and Eri Purnomohadi, chairman of National Entrepreneurs Association.

President Megawati will appoint one of the nine people head of the oil and gas regulatory body.

The body was formed last year based on the current oil and gas law that became effective late in 2001. (godang)
