House proposes amendment of oil and gas law

The legislation team of the House of Representatives (DPR) has formally proposed for the amendment of several important articles in the Law No: 22. 2001 on oil and gas.

The amendment proposal was submitted by the team members including Ana Muawanah, Eva Sundari, Dradjad Wibowo, Hasto Kuncoro and Tjatur Sapto Edy.

The team proposed including to revise the maximum amount of oil and gas that have to be sold to the domestic market to 75 percent from the 25 percent as stated in the article 22 of the law.

They demanded that every oil and gas contracts signed by the government should be consulted first and win approval from the House. Under the article 11 of the law, the oil and gas contracts should be only reported to the House.

The legislators also proposed to add articles that allow the government or the House to revise or annul a contract if it is against the national interest.

The team had earlier proposed for a judicial review of the law to the Constitution Court but the proposal was turned down . (*)
