The government supports the plan of the House of Representatives (DPR) to probe alleged corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN) practices in state owned oil and gas Pertamina, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro.
"Go ahead, if the House will establish a special committee to probe KKN in Pertamina," Purnomo said as reported by Media Indonesia on Wednesday.
The minister, however, said that focusing on the ongoing process in the elimination of KKN practices in Pertamina could be more effective rather than the establishment of a new team. "It could just waste the time," he said about the plan.
Purnomo said that the government's team had found 159 cases of alleged KKN practices in Pertamina since its establishment more than a year ago. 77 of the cases had been submitted to the Attorney General's Office for further investigation, 26 cases were renegotiated and the remaining 51 cases were settled through "business" approaches, he said.
According to Purnomo, through such process, the government could save state funds amounting to US$141 million and Rp 226 billion.
The PKB faction at the House has proposed for the establishment of a House special committee to probe rampant corruption practices in Pertamina. The proposal, however, has yet to receive approval from other factions. (*)
