The House of Representatives will form a working team to probe corruption in the oil and gas company Pertamina.

The House's document obtained by Petromindo.Com on Monday said the working team would be formed by the House's Commission VIII for energy and mineral resources, environment and science and technology.

Pertamina's president Baihaki Hakim said on Monday he supported the plan.

"It seems that several members of the Commission VIII are not satisfied by the performance of the Attorney General's office in handling corruption cases which occurred in Pertamina during the previous boards of directors," Baihaki said.

Pertamina's management unveiled in 1998, months after the downfall of former President Soeharto, 159 contracts with indications of corruption, entered into by Pertamina and Soeharto's family and cronies.

The Attorney General's office announced last year that of the 159 contracts, only less than ten contracts showed strong indications of corruptions, which need further investigation. (Godang/Epin)
