A new household gas pipeline network (also known here as jargas) to distribute gas to 5,656 households in Medan, the capital city of North Sumatra Province, has been completed and was inaugurated on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said in a statement that gas supply for the household pipeline network comes from upstream producer PT Triangle Pase Inc at a volume of 0.2 mmscfd.
The statement said that the new jargas, whose construction was financed by the 2018 state budget, will be operated by state-controlled gas distribution firm PT PGN Tbk.
The government has been developing household gas pipeline networks in a bid to push more households to switch into natural gas from LPG, which is mostly still imported.
From 2009 to 2018, the government has developed household gas pipeline networks in 40 regencies/mayoralties in 16 provinces, covering a total of 352,852 households.
This year, the government plans to develop new jargas for 78,216 households in 18 regencies/mayoralties.
