Hundreds of employees of some 33 sub contractors of oil and gas firm PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia (CPI) staged a demonstration on Tuesday in Duri, Riau province, the local Riau Post daily reported.

The paper said that the peaceful rally was organized by the prominent SBSI labor union.

The paper did not clearly said what were the demands of the protesting employees, but it said that the demonstration was held after the local parliament failed to meet the agreed deadline to help settle the increasing employees dissatisfaction against Caltex.

The paper quoted CPI public affair manager official Sainur Arif as saying that the demand of the protesting employees was not yet clear to the company, but he admitted that there was increasing dissatisfaction against Caltex.

He also said that the demonstration could disrupt operation at Caltex. (*)
