Hundreds of Sangatta villagers staged a rally at the headquarters of the East Kutai legislative council in East Kalimantan on Tuesday protesting the use of U.S.-based G-4 security firm by the giant coal mining company PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC).

The local Kaltim Post daily said that the protesting villagers demanded the G-4 foreign security guards to leave the Sangatta area.

The villagers called on KPC to reemploy local people as its security staff.

Separately, around 39 former security staffs of KPC went to see East Kutai Regent Awang Faroek to protest their dismissal.

KPC has recently dismissed the security guards to be replaced by the G-4 people. (*)
